PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft sealing device capable of preventing high-level contamination by surely recovering a liquid drain.SOLUTION: A drain recovery device 6a is configured to recover a liquid drain 5 leaked and dropped from seal portions 42a, 44d of a mechanical seal 4 through a clearance 2a between a seal case 2 and a rotary shaft 3 to a gas region A. The drain recovery device 6a includes a recovery trough 61 provided in the seal case 2 and a drain guide 63 provided in the rotary shaft 3. The recovery trough 61 comprises: a cylindrical outer peripheral wall 61a mounted to a lower end portion 21 of the seal case 2; a cylindrical inner peripheral wall 61b loosely fitted onto the rotary shaft 3 in proximity thereto; and an annular bottom wall 61c connecting lower end portions of the outer and inner peripheral walls 61a and 61b. The drain guide 63 is formed in the shape of a ring of which the outer diameter is made larger than that of the inner peripheral wall 61b of the recovery trough 61 a little, is disposed between upper and lower opposing end portions of the seal case 2 and the inner peripheral wall 61b of the recovery trough 61, and is fitted onto and fixed to the rotary shaft 3. |
