PURPOSE: A device for detecting the boundary layer of refined crude oil and an operation method thereof are provided to extract required contents from a storage tank of a floating offshore structure. CONSTITUTION: A device for detecting the boundary layer of refined crude oil comprises a storage tank (100), a dip tube, a radiating source (250), a transmitter (350), and a calculation unit (400). The storage tank is installed in a hull and stores contents containing refined crude oil therein. The dip tube is extended from the inner top surface of the storage tank. The radiating source emits radiations from the dip tube to the outside. The transmitter detects the emitted radiations and transmits the detected signals to the outside. The calculation unit receives the transmitted signals from the transmitter and calculates the density values of the contents.
