The device has a connecting circuit e.g. ducts (21, 22), to connect a source (1) to a tank (10) to transfer gas from the source toward the tank. A compressor (6) is arranged in the connecting circuit to selectively compress gas coming from the source before its transfer to the tank. The connecting circuit is formed with the compressor and a selective cooling unit in an upstream, where the cooling unit selectively cools gas to be compressed. The cooling unit has a heat exchanger (11) to exchange direct heat and/or indirect heat gas intended to be compressed and a coolant i.e. liquid nitrogen. An independent claim is also included for a method for filling a pressurized gas i.e. hydrogen, in a tank of a vehicle.
