Provided are a method and apparatus for identifying a character of a video. The method comprises: determining a character model according to a source video; determining a character pixel belonging to a character of a target video from the pixels comprised by the target video according to the character model corresponding to the target video; and determining at least one character text representing the character according to the character pixel. According to the method and apparatus for recognizing a character of a video, a character model is determined based on a source video, and a character is determined from the pixels of the video according to the character model. Therefore, the character is segmented from an image of the video without a segmentation algorithm, thereby being able to reduce the time required by an on-line image recognition process, and improving the real-time performance of a video analysis process.
