Water purification system comprises at least one first ultrasonic transducer (USW1) which is adapted to emit ultrasonic waves into the water, where the ultrasonic transducer comprises a resonant metallic surface and at least one plastic layer (KL) which is fixed on the metallic vibration surface. The sound velocity of at least one plastic layer is between sound velocity of the metal vibration surface and sound velocity the water. An independent claim is also included for treating water for purification of water, comprising generating ultrasonic waves with the ultrasonic transducer, adjusting the sound velocity of the ultrasonic waves by the plastic layer which is attached to metallic vibrating surface of the ultrasonic transducer, and delivering the ultrasonic waves with the adjusted sound velocity in the water.
