PURPOSE: A filtering material for water treatment and a water treatment apparatus using the same are provided to substantially improve biological water treatment efficiency by maximizing surface area on which microorganism is supported even when the surface area is composed of the same volume with a microorganism carrier in conformity with a previous technology and to facilitate filtration of foreign substances. CONSTITUTION: A filtering material for water treatment comprises a linear type core member (31) and multiple microorganism supporting members (32) which are combined on the surface of the linear type core member to be arranged in a ring shape. The linear type core member and the microorganism supporting member are composed of a material in which one or more from synthetic resin, jade, red clay, charcoal, and activated carbon are added. The microorganism supporting member is composed of a strip shape which is extended to a length direction of the linear type core member with a width between a first end (32a) which is parallel to a length direction of the linear type core member and a second end (32b) opposed to the first end. The first end is combined to a outer surface of the linear type core member and the second end is formed to be bent in a wave shape along with the length direction of the linear type core member to be exposed to the outside of the linear type core member.
