PURPOSE: A method for controlling the extreme wind speed of a wind turbine is provided to reduce power loss at a high wind speed and to reduce the operation stop time of the turbine, thereby improving the availability and the annual energy production (AEP) of the turbine. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling the extreme wind speed of a wind turbine (10) includes: a step (S2) of detecting a wind speed on the turbine in a normal operation; a step (S3) of varying the operation condition of the turbine when the wind speed on the turbine is over a predetermined shut down speed; a step (S4) of operating the turbine in an operation condition varied in the step (S3); a step (S5) of finishing the step (S4) and normally operating the turbine when the detected wind speed on the turbine satisfies a certain condition.
