The present invention relates to a method for screening an anticancer agent by measuring the methylation level of Pontin, the method comprising the steps of: culturing cells; bringing a potential substance into contact with the cells; determining whether the methylation level of Pontin in the cells decreases as compared to that in control cells (not brought into contact with the potential substance); and selecting the potential substance as an anticancer agent if the methylation level of Pontin in the cells decreases.
