摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and method which make it possible to equally hold an information amount of image information after recovery, as compared to an information amount before compression and have high compression efficiency.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus 1 comprises: a coordinate conversion section 11 for converting image data from an RGB coordinate system to a coordinate system of a luminance signal and a color difference signal; and an image compression expansion section 13 for performing at lease either one of a procedure of compressing image information whose coordinate has been converted by the coordinate conversion section 11, by using a reversible compressing algorithm and a procedure of expanding compressed image information, by using a reversible compression algorithm. The image processing apparatus 1 further comprises a coordinate preparation section 12, and in image information which has been converted to the coordinate system of the luminance signal and color difference signal by the coordinate conversion section 11, in the case where if a signal value of one signal of the luminance signal and color difference signal in any image information is any one value to be uniquely determined, and a signal value of the other signal is any one of the other values to be uniquely determined, the coordinate preparation section 12 operates to delete the signal value of the other signal.
