PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dielectric ceramic composition which exhibits good characteristics (reliability, temperature characteristics of capacitance, and the like) even under high electric field intensity, and an electronic component to which the composition is applied.SOLUTION: The dielectric ceramic composition contains a barium titanate-based composite oxide as a principal component and an oxide of an R1 element (La, Sm, Gd, Tb or Dy) as a sub-component. The composition has a plurality of dielectric particles and at least part of the dielectric particles are core-shell structure particles 21 comprising a principal phase 21a and a diffusion phase 21b which exists around the principal phase and in which the R1 element is solid-dissolved. When the thickness of the diffusion phase 21b is defined as ra and the radius of the crystal grain diameter of the core-shell structure particles 21 is defined as rb, 0.20≤ra/rb≤0.50 is satisfied. In the direction from the surface of the core-shell structure particles toward the boundary between the principal phase and the diffusion phase, the concentration gradient S of the R1 element is negative and 0.010≤|S|≤0.040 (atom%/nm) is satisfied. |
