PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means for dispersing alumina to a high degree for the manufacturing of a coating-type magnetic recording medium having good surface smoothness.SOLUTION: An alumina dispersion, which is employed to manufacture a coating-type magnetic recording medium, comprises alumina, a solvent, and a dispersing agent in the form of an aromatic hydrocarbon compound having a phenolic hydroxyl group, and essentially does not comprise ferromagnetic powder. |
