The present invention is an oxygen-absorbing resin composition that contains the following: (A) a base resin comprising a thermoplastic resin; and (B) an oxygen-absorbing component. Said oxygen-absorbing component comprises at least one species selected from among the group consisting of the following: esters, amides, imides, and dicarboxylic acids derived from an acid anhydride represented by formula (1) (in which the ring X represents an aliphatic ring having one unsaturated bond; n represents an integer, namely either 0 or 1, and indicates the number of substituents (Y) bound to ring X; and Y represents an alkyl group); and polymers having constitutional units derived from said acid anhydride. The present invention provides an oxygen-absorbing polyester resin composition that exhibits excellent oxygen-absorption performance even when not in the presence of a transition-metal catalyst, and without degradation or the like of the polyester resin, exhibits oxygen-absorption performance sufficient to ensure the gas-barrier properties that are particularly desired in the packaging-container field.
