摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool having a hard coating layer exhibiting excellent peel resistance and chipping resistance in high-speed intermittent cutting.SOLUTION: The surface coated cutting tool includes a lower layer formed of a Ti compound layer, an intermediate layer formed of an (Al, Ti)Olayer, and an upper layer formed of an α-type AlOlayer formed by vapor deposition. The outermost surface layer of the lower layer contains oxygen of 0.5-3 atom% only in a region up to a depth of 500 nm. In the intermediate layer, the percentage of an area occupied by (0001)-orientation Ti containing AlOcrystalline grains is 15-35 area%, and a lateral average grain diameter of the (0001)-orientation Ti containing AlOcrystalline grains is 0.3-1.0 μm. In addition, the percentage of an area occupied by (11-20)-orientation Ti containing AlOcrystalline grains is 55-75 area%, and a lateral average grain diameter of the (11-20)-orientation Ti containing AlOcrystalline grains is 1.0-2.0 μm. A lateral average grain diameter of the AlOcrystalline grains in the upper layer is 1.0-2.0 μm, and the percentage of an area occupied by the (0001)-orientation AlOcrystalline grains is 70 area% or larger.
