Provided is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, in which the negative electrode comprises an SiOx (0.5 < x < 1.5) and a carbon material, the ratio of SiOx to the total of SiOx and carbon material is not less than 1 mass% and not more than 10 mass%, preferably not less than 2 mass% and not more than 5 mass%, and the electrical double layer capacity at the interface between the negative electrode and the nonaqueous electrolyte is 0.5 to 1.8 mF/g. Preferably the average particle diameter DSiO of the SiOx and the average grain diameter Dc of the carbon material satisfies 1.5 < Dc/DSiO < 10.
