In the present invention, in order to suppress an increase in the temperature of a liquid crystal display device without causing flickering in a display screen if the ambient temperature is high, a liquid crystal display device is provided with the following: a liquid crystal display panel (112) having a light source (111); a temperature sensor (112a) for detecting the temperature of the liquid crystal display panel (112) or the ambient temperature thereof; and a luminance control unit (120) for controlling the luminance of the light source (111) depending on the detection results of the temperature sensor (112). The luminance control unit (120) controls the luminance of the light source (111) for passages of time that are set beforehand.
