PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system and a pickup method which make it possible to pick up a call terminating at a currently called terminal surely in a wider scope by a simple processing operation.SOLUTION: A switching system, which processes calls between a plurality of terminals, stores therein pickup group extension information stipulating pickup groups subject to scope extension for each pickup group. When a pickup processing request asserted by a prescribed operation at a terminal in an idle state is received, the switching system checks to see if a currently called terminal exists in a pickup group to which the requesting terminal belongs. If no relevant currently called terminal exists, the switching system refers to the pickup group extension information to identify a scope extension pickup group corresponding to the requesting pickup group, and executes a pickup process so that a call terminating at the currently called terminal existing in the scope extension pickup group is picked up at the requesting terminal. |
