PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emitting element which is improved in electron emission efficiency.SOLUTION: In the electron emitting element, a first electrode 1, an electron acceleration layer 2 containing insulating fine particles 2a, and a second electrode 3 are sequentially laminated and electrons emitted from the first electrode 1 are accelerated in the electron acceleration layer 2 and are emitted from the second electrode 3 to the outside by applying a voltage between the first electrode 1 and the second electrode 3. The electron emitting element is characterized in that the second electrode 3 has a shape with an opening.
