This negative electrode for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries is provided with a negative electrode collector and a negative electrode active material layer. The negative electrode active material layer contains a first active material and a second active material. The first active material absorbs and desorbs lithium ions at a first potential. The second active material absorbs and desorbs lithium ions at a first potential that is close to the first potential of the first active material and a second potential that is higher than the first potential. The difference between the first potential of the second active material and the second potential of the second active material is 0.1 V or more. The capacity ratio of the second electrochemical capacity (C2) of the second active material at the second potential to the first electrochemical capacity (C1) of the second active material at the first potential, namely C2/C1 is 3.3 or less.
