The remote control element (10) has a transceiver unit (12) that is energized with power in the operation of a power source (14). The remote control element is designed to send out a message with a radiation power that is lower than the maximum radiation power or with a transmission rate that is higher than minimum transmission rate. A repeat message is transmitted with another radiation power that is higher than the former radiation power or with another transmission rate that is lower than the former transmission rate, if the case of unsuccessful transmission. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a safety and operating device for a motor vehicle; and (2) a method for transmitting data between a remote control element and a transceiver unit.
