摘要 INSULATING BOOT FOR ELECTROSURGICAL FORCEPS Abstract Either an endoscopic (10) or open bipolar forceps includes a flexible, generally tubular insulating boot (500) for insulating patient tissue, while not 5 impeding motion of the jaw members (110, 120). The jaw members (110, 120) are movable from an open to a closed position and the jaw members (110, 120) are connected to a source of electrosurgical energy such that the jaw members (110, 120) are capable of conducting energy through tissue held therebetween to effect a tissue seal. A knife assembly (140) may be included that allows a user to 10 selectively divide tissue (420) upon actuation thereof. The insulating boot (500) may be made from a viscoelastic, elastomeric or flexible material suitable for use with a sterilization process including ethylene oxide. An interior portion of the insulating boot (500) may have at least one mechanically interfacing surface that interfaces with a mechanically interfacing surface formed between the shaft (12) 15 and a jaw member (110, 120) or with a mechanically interfacing surface disposed or formed on the shaft (12) or a jaw member (110, 120).
