PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine that prevents formation of a mixture of particle stain and lipid stain, which is one of causes for darkish, and prevents reattachment of the mixture.SOLUTION: The washing machine comprises a rotatable washing and dewatering tank 32 for accommodating laundry, a water tank 31 for accommodating the washing and dewatering tank 32, driving means 33 for driving the washing and dewatering tank 32, stain detecting means 72 for detecting a stain amount of washing water, water feeding means 4a for feeding water to the washing and dewatering tank 32, and a controlling device 81 for controlling a washing step. The washing step has a prewashing step only using water, and a main washing step. The controlling device 81 determines whether to perform the prewashing step on the basis of the stain amount detected by the stain detecting means 72. This allows particle stain such as carbon to be first discharged to the outside at the prewashing step to prevent the particle stain from being mixed with lipid stain such as sebum, thereby preventing re-contamination of clothing. |
