PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a photoacoustic imaging method to display an image reflecting a diagnostic characteristic that is being sought from the displayed image such as imaging depth, definition, etc.SOLUTION: A photoacoustic imaging apparatus 10, which has a means 13, 21, 22 for emitting pulsed light toward a test object and detecting the acoustic waves generated from the test object as a result thereof to generate photoacoustic data, is provided with: a condition-inputting means 50, 51, which inputs the diagnostic characteristic that is being sought from the displayed image and/or information representing the band of the acoustic wave-detecting means 11; and a pulse width-adjusting means 52 for adjusting the pulse width of the pulsed light on the basis of the information input from the condition-inputting means 50, 51. |
