Provided in the present invention are a method and network device for converging master clock sources. The method comprises: a current network device entering a master clock change (MCC) state machine; and the current network device transmitting within the MCC state machine to an adjacent network device a synchronization status message (SSM) packet carrying an MCC identifier. The method and network device for converging the master clock sources utilize the SSM packet carrying the MCC identifier to broadcast rapidly the master clock source change, and, when the master clock source of a device are changed, to allow a packet transmission operation to not be restricted by a slow protocol transmission cycle, thus allowing for clock convergence time of an entire system to be reduced by three to five times, for effectively increased convergence speed, and for conserved convergence time. |
