PURPOSE: A light emitting device is provided to increase a light emitting area and the flux of light. CONSTITUTION: An active layer (114) is formed on a first conductive semiconductor layer (112). A second conductive semiconductor layer (116) is formed on the active layer. A light transparent electrode layer (150) is located on the bottom and the lateral surface of a substrate. The light transparent electrode layer is electrically connected to the first conductive semiconductor layer. A second electrode (132) is formed on the second conductive semiconductor layer.
