The domestic pressure cooker includes jaws (3) to lock the cover on the base container. A mechanism (5) is used to move the jaws between locked and unlocked positions. There is also a module (6) which controls the locking and unlocking of the cover. The module may includes a timer (11) and a pressure regulating valve (12). The domestic pressure cooker includes a container (1) and a cover (2) which is intended to be locked on to the container. One or more jaws (3) are provided to lock the cover on the base container. A mechanism (5) is used to move the jaws between locked and unlocked positions. There is also a module (6) which is fixed to the cover for controlling the locking and unlocking of the cover. The module may includes a timer (11) and a pressure regulating valve (12). The valve communicates with a pressure control aperture (12B) in the cover, and is sensitive to the pressure within the container. This offers two stable positions - the first in which it closes communication between the container and the outside whilst the pressure is below a predetermined value, and the second in which communication is allowed via a steam outlet when the pressure has attained the set value.
