Coiling machine comprises a support unit (8) with a support element (9) arranged on the machine side opposing the turning unit (5). The support element moves in the vertical direction using a drive and supports the end of a winding shaft (3) on the path from the winding direction to a discharge position. Preferred Features: The support unit is fixed and contains a vertically moving support rail as support element which extends horizontally from the discharge position into the winding position of the winding shaft.
