The invention relate to a method for fingerprinting at least one network device comprising, in a monitoring device, a step of computing a passive fingerprint from a plurality of parameters of the at least one network device. The method being remarkable in that it comprises a step of modifying at least one parameter among the plurality of parameters of the at least one remote networked device, wherein the parameters modification is derived from a function over the time called diversity function, the modified parameters result in a variation of the passive fingerprint of the at least one network device in order to increase the fingerprint diversity, and wherein said variation of the passive fingerprint is limited to a determined range in order to preserve the fingerprint stability. The invention is particularly suitable for IEEE 802.11 and for a fingerprinting method based on inter-arrival time histogram. |
