Embodiments of the present invention relate to the field of wireless communication technologies, and disclose a method and an apparatus for obtaining and providing media data to simplify the processing on a server and overcome the incapability of meeting dynamic personalized requirements of a user in the process of playing value-added service contents. The method for obtaining media data includes: receiving at least one piece of personalized option information of a first media data stream sent by a server; selecting required personalized option information in the at least one piece of personalized option information; sending the selected personalized option information to the server; and receiving the first media data stream that is delivered by the server according to the selected personalized option information. The embodiments of the present invention may be applied in controlling presentation of other media data streams that are played on the terminal in parallel with a primary media data stream.
