[Also in Group XXIV] In a motor vehicle differential bevel gear assembly comprising a bevel ring gear 11 and drive pinion 15, deflection of the gear 11 is prevented by a thrust pad 31 and lubrication of roller bearings 21, 22 for the pinion shaft 11 is effected by oil which is wiped off the ring gear 11 by the thrust pad 31 and is delivered along a sloping groove 37 in the casing to the space between the bearings 21, 22. The pad 31 is adjustably mounted in the casing by a screw 35 and has edges 32a, 32b which abut against a hub 33 on the ring gear 11 and a lower concave surface 41 which directs lubricant into a trough 38 at the head of the groove 37. The casing is filled with lubricant to the level shown in Fig. 1.
