<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for compressing and decompressing dot-matrix font data. <P>SOLUTION: Following steps (a) to (e) of compression are performed by a computer. (a) A dot-matrix font character is divided into a lateral image, a vertical image and a residual image. (b) Huffman encoding is applied to the lateral image pattern in a set, and a compression lateral code to the lateral image pattern is generated. (c) The Huffman encoding is applied to the vertical image pattern in the set, and a compression vertical code to the vertical image pattern is generated. (d) The Huffman encoding is applied to the residual image pattern in the set, and a compression residual code to the residual image pattern is generated. (e) The compression lateral code, the compression vertical code and the compression residual code are selectively coupled on respective characters, and a bit string showing a compressed form of the dot matrix font character is generated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
