Glass bodies (which may be of any shape, e.g. plates or tubes, or size down to powdered glass) are joined together by interposing between them a cement comprising an intimate mixture of about 15-90 per cent. weight of at least one finely divided metal (particularly aluminium) and 85-10 per cent. weight of at least one non- distillable organs polysiloxane and heating to such temperature as will completely decompose the polysiloxane so that the glass bodies are joined by the thermal reaction product of the mixture. When powdered glass is used the mixture may be moulded to shape before being heated. Many examples are given.</p> |
