<p>The invention is claimed as applying to any message with one masked and one unmasked part, however the example embodiment relates to the high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) found in 3GPP standards relating to WCDMA and HSPA. The HS-SCCH message comprises two data parts and a CRC derived from both parts together. A mask derived from the UE-ID of the intended recipient is applied to the first data part. In the known art (Fig. 1) the receiver reverses the encoder steps, ending with a CRC check for errors and whether the UE is the intended recipient. The invention proposes modifying this process order. The second message part and CRC are received 201B and channel decoded 204B and used to generate a candidate 209 for the first data part. This is then channel encoded 210 and XORed 211 with the received first message part 201A to recover the mask. Finally this is channel decoded and compared with the UE-ID.</p> |
