Monitoring elevator systems

A system adapted to monitor an elevator system 102, 103 comprises at least one monitoring device 106, 114 configured to receive at least one signal relating to an elevator system 102, 103, at least one signal processing device 106, 108 configured to generate elevator system status data based on the at least one signal and a communication device 108 configured to transfer the elevator system status data to at least one remote device 120, 126 via a wireless network 118. The elevator system status data may be transferred to the at least one remote device 120, 126 on a substantially continuous basis and may be used for further processing and/or display which may be substantially real-time display. The wireless network 118 may be a mobile or cellular network such as a GSM network. The elevator system status data may be information concerning maintenance activities and may include their timing and/or duration. The monitoring device 106, 114 may be modular devices which communicate with communication device 108 via a compatible interface 107, 112 and the devices 106, 114 may receive information regarding fault states, elevator carriage position data, run time, number of trips, carriage floor position relative to structural floor level, number of floors, current floor level, weight overload or temperature related faults. A remote device 126 may allow control of a function or setup of the elevator system 102, 103.
