<p>The present invention discloses a slam-shut safety valve for a gas distribution system, the slam-shut safety valve comprising a valve body (12), an upper case (14) mounted to the valve body (12) and a diaphragm (42) disposed between the valve body (12) and the upper case (14), at least part of the diaphragm (42) being displaceable into an interior portion of the valve body (12) and into an interior portion of the upper case (14), the diaphragm (42) having a first side being exposed to gas system pressure. Further a first spring (30) and a second spring (32) disposed within the interior of the upper case (14), the first spring (30) and the second spring (32) exerting respective first and second spring forces on a second side of the diaphragm (42) opposite the gas system pressure. The invention further incudes a plunger (64) connected to the first side of the diaphragm (42), a cam (62) rotatably mounted within the interior of the valve body (12), the cam (62) having a first arm (63a), a second arm (63b), and a third arm (63c), the first arm (63a) contacting the plunger (64) as well as a latch engaging the first arm, the latch adapted to be connected to a slam-shut valve plug, wherein movement of the plunger (64) either towards or away from the cam (62) rotates the cam and releases the latch.</p> |
