A monitoring apparatus for a steam plant comprises a non-contact vibro-acoustic sensor 410 for remotely sensing the vibroÂa-coustic behaviour of a conduit of the steam plant. The output of a vibrometer 411 is indicative of the operating condition of a component of the steam plant in fluid communication with the conduit. A condition monitoring unit 413 is coupled to the vibrometer 411 for processing its output and determining the operating condition of the component. A non-contact temperature sensor 436 may determine when the plant is operating in order to trigger the vibrometer 411. The invention also includes a corresponding method of monitoring a steam plant. |
