Impact absorbing system for surfaces

The system, primarily for use with industrial floor surfaces, sporting surfaces, playgrounds and the like, comprises a first upper layer 10 and a second layer 20 which is resilient and comprises at least one foam element 40 and at least one inset region 30. The second layer preferably comprises a number of foam elements thermally bonded to one another. A layer of ground stabilising material 50,60 is preferably positioned on each of the upward and downward facing surfaces of the second layer. The inset region(s) may comprise holes, which extend fully or partially through the second layer, or grooves or channels that extend along the upper surface of the second layer. A material which supports plant growth may be provided in the inset region(s). The first layer is preferably resilient and may comprise a rubber material. Also claimed is a kit for providing an impact absorbing material and a method of installing such a surface.
