A filter element comprises a cylindrical pleated filtering member 16, Fig. 1, wherein the member is formed of multiple layers 22, 23, Fig. 2, of resin-impregnated paper folded together but unsecured and only in partial contact with each other, whereby spaces 22a, 23a are formed. A sealing ring 21 is located between the housing 10 and a flange at the periphery of the upper end plate 24 of the element. The retaining spring 28 operates between the cover 18 and a plate 25 interposed between the cover and the element. |
