A slave device (1) containing stored data and having an optical output means, transfers this stored data to a recording camera(4). The recording camera may be connected to or be part of a local computing device (5), a mobile phone (6) or an internet based server. The slave device records data from external environments (2). The slave device may be triggered to optically output its recorded data using an external trigger source (3). The optical data transfer means adds no cost to the slave device leading to significant commercial advantage.
