An airship has a rigid shell 1 and includes landing gear 2. Buoyancy is created by extracting air from within the shell to overcome the weight of the shell. The shell may be made from aluminium shaped in a sphere of radius 65m having a skin thickness of 2.5mm. The airship may have sufficient buoyancy to enable load carrying to be undertaken. |
