PURPOSE: A data transmission and reception method and display apparatus using the same are provided to determine an area for controlling data transmission and reception by recognizing connection directions. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal sets a network connection state for communication(S300). The portable terminal connects to a display apparatus(S310). The portable terminal recognizes connected locations(S320). The connection of the portable terminal is terminated(S330). A first area corresponding to the connected location is determined on the portable terminal(S340). Data corresponding to an object is transmitted to a first portable terminal or a second portable terminal.
