[Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In locking devices for irreversible transmissions, more particularly those employed in raising and lowering gear for sliding windows, of the type in which a spindle 3 drives a wheel 19 and is associated with a helical spring so arranged that when the spindle drives the wheel in either direction the spring is contracted so as to be freed from a fixed cooperating surface, but if the wheel reacts on the spindle in either direction the spring is expanded to grip the surface and thus prevent movement, a driving dog 11 formed on a plate 18 passes with clearance 'through a slot 10 in a hub 4 driven by the spindle, and the spring 12 encircles the hub and engages with the interior of a fixed housing 15 in which the hub is mounted, the ends 20 of the spring being turned down into the slot to engage on either side of the dog and when so engaged being spaced from the walls of the slot.
