PURPOSE: A flavonoid compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided to prevent or treat diseases caused by viral infection. CONSTITUTION: An antiviral composition contains a flavonoid compound of chemical formula 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, and RNA as a template. The flavonoid compound of chemical formula 1 is quercetin 3-galatoside of chemical formula 2. The antiviral composition has an antiviral effect against influenza A virus, influenza B virus, or rhino virus causing respiratory diseases. An antiviral food composition contains the flavonoid compound of chemical formula 1 or 2.
