PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to simplify a local dimming algorithm, by implementing local dimming on the basis of Black or White (BOW) obtained by comparing data of an input image with center transmittance grayscale. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit irradiates a light to a display panel (100). A frame rate conversion part (62) performs time division of one frame period into a first frame period and a second frame period by multiplying a frame frequency of an input image. A data modulation part (64) selects a logic value of BOW indicating one of a white grayscale and a black grayscale according to the comparison result obtained by comparing each data of the input image with the pre-established center transmittance grayscale, and modulates the data of the input image on the basis of the BOW, and generates black grayscale or white grayscale data on the basis of the BOW.
