PURPOSE: A composition for preventing and treating bone diseases is provided to reduce differentiation or activation of osteoclast, to suppress bone resorption, and to promote differentiation of osteoblast and osteogenesis. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating bone diseases contains a Rumex crispus L. extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, hydrous or anhydrous C1-C4 alcohol, acetone, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, dichloromethane(CH_2Cl_2), chloroform(CHCl_3), hexane, and 1,3-butylene glycol. Bone diseases are bone damage, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, richets, osteitis fibrosa, aplastic bone disease, or metabolic bone disease. The extract promotes differentiation of osteoblast. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating bone diseases contains a pharmaceutically effective amount of the composition and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
