PURPOSE: A composition containing a Salvia miltiorrhiza extract, a fraction thereof, or a compound is provided to suppress 3CL protease activity, and to prevent and treat coronavirus infection. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating coronavirus infection contains a Salvia miltiorrhiza extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, C1-C4 alcohols, or a mixture thereof. The fraction is a hexane fraction, an ethyl acetate fraction, or a water fraction. The pharmaceutical composition contains a compound as an active ingredient, among compounds of chemical formulas 1-7. A method for preventing or treating corona virus infection comprises a step of administering the compound to mammals exclusive of human.
