595133 Disclosed is headgear for delivering gas under a positive pressure to a patient. The headgear has a connector adapted to be attached to a supply of gas and a pair of side portions adapted to extend along opposite sides of the patient's head. The side portions define a flexible conduit wall having a first conduit end attached to the connector and a second conduit end adapted to be positioned adjacent the patient's nose. Each conduit wall is deformable between an open condition and a closed condition. In the open condition the conduit wall defines a conduit passage along which the gas can travel between the first conduit end and the second conduit end, when the connector is attached to the supply of gas under normal operating conditions and no external compressive force is applied to the conduit wall. In the closed condition the conduit wall substantially collapses the conduit passage due to the force of the patient's head rolling on the conduit wall. When the conduit passage of one of the side portions collapses, the conduit passage of the other side portion compensates for the collapsed conduit passage.
