PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a screen control method thereof are provided to increase accessibility by connecting one or more pattern areas to a desired screen or a desired application. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(151) displays a predetermined screen. A memory(160) stores information related to a screen set in a pattern area of the screen. When the pattern area is touched in a sleep mode, a control unit(180) displays the screen by activating the screen based on the information stored in the memory. The predetermined screen includes a function screen of an application which is frequently used by the user.
