PURPOSE: An image object detection device and a method thereof are provided to convert a disparity image into a distance image and utilize the same, thereby directly obtaining an object image from the disparity image. CONSTITUTION: A matching cost calculation unit(330) calculates matching costs by using brightness values of a plurality of pixels which comprises a stereoscopic image. An accounting unit(340) calculates accounting costs by using the matching costs. A disparity value determination unit(350) adds the accounting costs and determines a minimal disparity value as the final disparity value of a corresponding pixel. An image object detection unit(360) detects an image object which includes a pixel having a disparity value which is larger than a predetermined reference value.
