Innovative Friction Joint- MITRA04-Abstract An innovative design for assembling cross members on an extrusion pole is introduced to ensure, flexibility of the location of the cross member, ease of securing and repositioning when required. Details of the design are shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig.3 and Fig.4. This assembly is based on a typical cross section of an extruded pole design as shown in Fig.4. In the cross section shown there are five longitudinal slots in which the friction joint to be assembled at any location along the axis of the pole. The Friction Joint assembly MITRA04 consists of: - a cross member, which is shown in Fig.1. as a square hollow section E with welded end plate C. - a wedge D with two threaded holes for two Socket Head Cap (SHC) Screws, F. First the cross member (E) and Wedge (D) are held together and inserted into the slots in the pole. While still loose the assembly can be slid along the slot to required position. The tightening of the two SHC screws will facilitate the Wedge to move outwards thus applying normal force to surfaces shown as 'a' in Fig.3. The analogical surfaces of the slot are shown marked A and B in Fig.1 The direction of movement of the screws and the corresponding sliding direction of the Wedge is shown with arrows in Fig.2. Two holes provided in the end plate will allow the screws to pass through the end plate and operate on the base of the slot in the pole. This design eliminates the need for providing tapped holes in the pole for securing cross members. The Friction Joint MITRA04 also provides flexibility of fixing the cross members at any position along length of the pole. This design also ensures ease of repositioning and securing the cross members efficiently by only tightening two screws. bl(9 n2 ciL V U U, o- -- -- --- -- .... .... .... .... .... a......... a......... 4m) |
