<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system and a communication channel selection method for a mobile terminal device, capable of selecting an optimal communication channel for the mobile terminal device capable of connecting with a server, through a plurality of communication channels such as public wireless LAN channels. <P>SOLUTION: The communication system includes the server and the mobile terminal device having a function to communicate with the server through a communication channel selected among the plurality of communication channels. Before communication, the mobile terminal device requests the server to measure a response time of at least one communication channel among the plurality of communication channels.
